Artist Statement
“My work as an artist is intrinsically tied to my identity as a Tohono O’odham person. I am inspired by Native American cultures and their surrounding environment. As an Indigenous person, I want to highlight the diversity of Native communities and cultures within Indian Country. My work ranges from portraits to environmental photography. I am influenced by artists such as Zig Jackson, Kali Spitzer, and Steve McCurry. They depict different communities through portraits or intentionally posed street/environment photos. As a photographer, I seek to engage with people in the context of their environment to explore the facets of identity through the creation of images.”
